Tete a Tete

This is a rare tete a tete mady by Meissen around 1820. It is handpainted with large Watteau style scenes and a yellow ground with very fancy gold trim. The Watteau scenes are of superb quality and especially the one on the tray is huge and very detailed and uses great colors. The scenes depict different people doing different things. Some are smoking, some are drinking coffee and some are just hanging out with their lady or gentleman. All pieces are in great condition with very little wear to the gilding. Some of the rims especially the teapot have pockmarks where the paste is uneven and a spot missing but it’s all gilded over and from the making. Might be why most of the pieces are second quality. The creamer has a tiny 1/4 inch (0.6cm) firing crack to a rim. All pieces are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark underneath (the bottom of tray is unglazed) and some impressed numbers like 2,5,8 and 73 depending on the piece. The tray has incised numbers 8 and 61 underneath. The lid inside is marked with a black 92. and the bottom of the saucer I believe with faint ghost marks like an M and IIII might have been painters marks. The cups are 2.75 inches (7cm) tall and the same in diameter. The saucers are 5.625 inches (14.2cm) in diameter and 1.25 inches (3.1cm) tall. The creamer is 3.75 inches (9.5cm) tall and 3.625 inches (9.2cm) diameter. The teapot is 5.5 inches (13.9cm) tall and 4.5 inches (11.4cm) diameter and the tray is 17 inches (43.1cm) wide, 12 inches (30.5cm) deep and 1 inch (2.5) tall. This is a very rare set to find and in super condition. There is no sugar pot or any other piece and it doesn’t look like there ever was as the space on the tray is filled up nicely.
